Night Picnic is a journal of literature and art which publishes novels, novellas, plays, short and flash stories, fairytales for adults, poetry, interviews, essays (including popular science essays), letters to the editors, and artwork.

We prefer, but not exclusively, fantasies with multidimensional metaphysical meanings. Our slogan:

“Find Truth in Fiction!”

We encourage authors to submit all that is strange, dark, jubilant, complex, confusing, scary, mystical, and multidimensional. We do NOT publish memoirs, heavy science fiction, political essays, and pornography. We do NOT publish manuscripts with chauvinistic and fascistic tendencies.

You must be 18 or over to submit.

The size of the manuscript does not matter; we do not limit by word count. Large novels will be published in separate issues of the magazine. Font must be Times New Roman or Calibri. We do not consider unfinished work. If submitting multiple poems or artworks, they must be together in one submission. Work must be submitted in an editable format (i.e. do not submit in pdf format).

All submissions must be in English and previously unpublished. Translations are permissible but should be accompanied by a copy of the original text. Simultaneous submissions are fine just notify us immediately if the manuscript is accepted for publication elsewhere. Reprints by invitation only.

We welcome submissions from writers of every race, religion, nationality, gender, sexual orientation or proclivity.

We use Submittable to accept and review our submissions.
